AstroPair: kundali matching on Klik

Real 36-point kundali matching, inside a dating app. AstroPair™ runs the traditional Ashtakoota (Guna Milan) system on your and your match's birth charts, so you can see the score your family would ask about, before they ask.

What is kundali matching?

In Nepali and wider South Asian tradition, families have long compared the birth charts (kundali, or janma kundali) of two people before a marriage. The most widely used method is Ashtakoota, also called Guna Milan: eight areas of compatibility, called kootas, each worth a set number of points, adding up to a total out of 36.

For many families it's still one of the first questions asked about a match. For many of us, it's the question our parents will ask, whether we ask it or not.

The eight kootas of Guna Milan

Each koota looks at one side of a relationship, and each carries a traditional maximum. Together they make 36 points:

  • Varna (1 point): social harmony and mutual respect, reflecting support, balance and shared understanding.
  • Vashya (2 points): mutual attraction and influence, the natural pull between two people.
  • Tara (3 points): health and life rhythm, pointing to emotional stability and a shared flow through life.
  • Yoni (4 points): physical and intimate compatibility, the depth of natural attraction.
  • Graha Maitri (5 points): mental compatibility and communication, how thoughts, values and decisions line up.
  • Gana (6 points): temperament and personality, how two natures blend over time.
  • Bhakoot (7 points): emotional bonding and long-term growth, harmony in goals, finances and expectations.
  • Nadi (8 points): core life energy, traditionally linked to health, longevity and the strength of family life.

The weights rise as you go down the list, so the later kootas, Bhakoot and Nadi above all, count for the most in the total.

What a Guna Milan score traditionally means

Astrologers and families read the total out of 36 in broad bands. These are how the tradition is commonly described, not a promise about any relationship:

  • Below 18: traditionally seen as a weak match, often not recommended for marriage.
  • 18 to 24: traditionally considered acceptable, an average match.
  • 25 to 32: traditionally considered a good to very good match.
  • 33 to 36: traditionally considered an excellent match, and rare.

Many families also look beyond the total, for example at whether particular kootas score zero, and some will still want a jyotishi to look at the full charts. The score is where the conversation starts, not where it ends.

How kundali matching works on Klik

We coded our own Ashtakoota (Guna Milan) engine and verified it against traditional calculations. AstroPair runs a full analysis across all eight kootas and produces a real 0 to 36 Guna Milan score from your and your match's birth charts. Because a kundali is built from when and where you were born, AstroPair needs your birth details to work.

It's the kundali matching your family actually trusts, done right, sitting right next to your matches instead of in a separate app or a trip to the jyotishi. Your mom would approve.

One signal among many

We built AstroPair because kundali matters to a lot of Nepali families, and it deserves to be done properly. But a number out of 36 can't tell you how someone treats you, whether you laugh at the same things, or how you'll handle a hard week together.

Use the score however it fits your beliefs and your family's. Some people treat it as a deciding factor, some as a fun conversation starter, and some skip it entirely. All of that is welcome on Klik. Talk, meet safely, and trust what you learn about each other.
